Transpersonal Psychology and the Nature of Emotional and Psychosomatic Disorders

6 day-residential workshop (in English) integrating lectures with deep experiential practice of Holotropic Breathwork

with Dr. Stan Grof,

Diana Medina

and Grof Transpersonal Training staff

Sant Feliu de Guixols, Girona, Spain

August 22-27, 2010

This workshop is addressed to people interested in Transpersonal Psychology, in modern consciousness research and in their own personal growth. For those who want to train to become Holotropic Breathwork facilitator this is one of the four mandatory modules.

Transpersonal Psychology and the Nature of Emotional and Psychosomatic Disorders (Formerly Architecture of Psychopathology).

Content:

Stan Grof will be in the module during the first two days. He will explore with the group, accompanied by images, the traditional understanding of various forms of psychopathology of psychogenic origin, as well as the new insights into their nature and dynamics that have emerged from experiential psychotherapy and the work with non-ordinary states of consciousness. This work has revealed that psychogenic disorders cannot be adequately explained in the context of biographical models, but have also significant perinatal and transpersonal dimensions. This module includes discussions of various phobias, inhibited and agitated depression, suicidal behavior, obsessive-compulsive neurosis, conversion hysteria, sexual dysfunctions and deviations, impulsive disorders, psychosomatic illnesses, and addictions.

During the last 4 days participants will have the opportunity to know the practical experience of Holotropic Breathwork. The staff of Grof Transpersonal Training will lead 4 Holotropic Breathwork sessions; there will be also mandala drawing and integration time.

This module is open to people interested in Transpersonal Psychology and modern consciousness research. To participate in this module is not required to have previous experience in Holotropic Breathwork. Modules can be taken independently: to take this module does not represent a commitment to continue the training. For those who want to train to become Holotropic Breathwork facilitators this is a mandatory one. All modules are given in English (with Spanish translation), in a beautiful hotel in the Costa Brava, Girona, Spain. You will be asked to fill in a simple medical form.

Please note: Dr. Stan Grof has confirmed with us his definite participation in this event, as it has been described here. However, in the past, for medical reasons, Dr. Grof has had to occasionally cancel travel to Europe. While he is currently in good health and we are not anticipating any problem with his participation, we want to be sure you are aware of the small possibility. If Dr. Grof's health requires him to cancel the trip, his participation will be substituted with GTT director Tav Sparks. In case you would decide to cancel your participation due to this change, the organization would refund your deposit/payment, but will not assume responsibility for travelling arrangements.

How is a Grof Transpersonal Training workshop:

During the course of the six-day workshop, each participant will experience two sessions of Holotropic Breathwork as experiencer (or "breather), and two sessions as partner (or "sitter"). Besides the four breathwork experiences and the topics covered, there will be art, music, dancing, film, and integration during the workshop.
Groups are international, both GTT staff and participants come from diferent parts of the world. Being in Spain we also have also a large number of Spanish participants. It is an experience of deep and respectful work, but the athmosphere is relaxed and casual. Meals are buffet style, very abundant and of excellent quality and variety, suited for vegetarians and no-vegetarians. Cilmate in Spain is usually mild and often the wheather allows for meals in the outside gardens and terraces. If you want to see some pictures of the one module in Spain click here:

Please find below a list of useful telephones and addresses.

Have a good journey!

Travelling by plane: Quite likely you will have to fly to Barcelona (120 km away from the hotel) if you come from outside Spain. There is an Airportbus every 20 min. to the center of Barcelona. You can take a bus (departing every hour) at the Estación Norte of Barcelona to Sant Feliu de Guixols (it takes about 1 hour and 40 minutes; Bus company “La Sarfa”, www.sarfa.com). Once in Feliu de Guixols, take a taxi to the hotel (about 5 minutes, aprox. 7 euros).

Another interesting option is that you could get really cheap prices for European flights connecting with some important European cities from and to Girona airport (very close to the hotel retreat) in Ryanair. Their web is www.ryanair.com once you are in their page click on the upper right hand side “Book now” and you will find the possible connexions to and from Girona.

If you are travelling by plane in Spain (and from some European cities) you could try to get a flight to Girona (about 30 km from the hotel). At Girona there are buses every hour to Platja D’Aro (same “La Sarfa”), the ride is about 40 minutes and costs 6€ approximately. Once you get to Feliu de Guixols take a taxi to the hotel (about 5 minutes, aprox. 7 euros).

Travelling by car to the hotel: Well communicated from anywhere in Spain by national road or highway. Take exit 9 in Autopista A-7 Barcelona - Girona (exit Platja D’Aro), it is well signposted. From the highway exit it is about 30 km to Feliu de Guixols.

Travelling by train: The closest train station is in Girona (30 km). For those of you travelling by train/bus to Girona, the bus station is right in front of the train station. At Girona there are buses every hour to Platja D’Aro (bus company “La Sarfa”) the ride takes about 40 minutes and costs 6€ approximately. Once you get to Feliu de Guixols take a taxi to the hotel (about 5 minutes, aprox. 7 euros).

Meals: All meals are included in the price of the module, beginning with the lunch of the 5th, to the breakfast of the 10th. The service is buffet style so you can choose vegetarian or non vegetarian dishes according to your preference.

What to bring: For all activities is appropriate to wear comfortable and casual clothing. For the breathwork sessions please bring eyeshades (or scarf), easy to take off shoes, and some shawl. If you wish to bath at the beautiful pool (open depending on weather) or in the ocean (there are a beautiful beaches), you need a towel, swimsuit and sandals, a sun protection product and a hat.

Weather: The climate is hot. August temperatures usually do not drop below 18º C and max. temperatures are around 30º C. Most days are sunny. The hotel is heated and air-conditioned.
